Somewhere in this world, in front of some screening somewhere of AMISTAD is a 7 minute trailer for PRINCE OF EGYPT. Now personally, don't you think it would be the classiest thing in the world for Dreamworks to go ahead and put it out on some site somewhere. I don't care if it's on my site, I just want to be able to download it!!! Ya know? Here is what the Disenfranchised Genius had to say...
dear harry:
i saw something tonight that i thought you'd be interested in. the first seven minutes of 'prince of egypt'. it's attached to 'amistad'. there was a trailer for 'mulan' which i read your thing about. did you see it on screen or just online? cause it's pretty cool. especially the scene with the horses running over the snow covered hill.
but...
the p.o.e. opening sequence...
i really don't know how to convey to you in an e-mail how powerful it was without it just sounding like hyperbole. you ought to find out if it's playing in austin and see it. it's got great character design, and really cool intergration of cgi and cell animation. the multi plane work is awesome. there is so much more depth and scope than i have ever seen in an animated film. it has this truly epic look. but what sells it is the song is so good. it's this big sweeping chorus of slaves singing about, well, being slaves. and you just see all these people building the pyramids and temples. then it focuses in on this woman who in order to save her baby is going to... well i assume you know the story. but her voice is just achingly beautiful. she sings as few lines in hebrew which is very cool 'cause it sets a tone that is very serious and really makes you pay attention. it was very moving.
'mulan' looks cool 'cause it's trying to be something new and take the genre to the next plateau. but 'prince of egypt' looks to be the one that does it. katzenberg is smart to put out this entire sequence like he did with 'lion king'. 'cause you get a chance to get into it. i thought it looked wonderful.
