The First Official KICK-ASS Images Are Online Now!!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. I’m working on my set report for this film right now. I spent three days watching them work in London in October, and I honestly think this one’s going to knock people out when they see it, even if they have no idea what Mark Millar’s book is. Right now, the mainstream audience seems primed for this sort of post-modern take on the superhero story, and I think they’ll really appreciate the way this film is obviously set in our world. Not the DC Universe. Not the Marvel Universe. Not even a world like ours, but where heroes are real. Nope... this one’s set in our world, and these characters have all soaked up the same pop culture you have, and even the dude in the suit is just a dude in a suit, with no superpowers or anything that makes him special. A few outlets were invited to the Toronto location shoot for the film, and that’s where Newsarama watched them shoot a pivotal scene in the film, where Dave (Aaron Johnson) actually steps up and stops a crime for the very first time. The costume is pretty much exactly like the John Romita Jr. design in the comic, with one key exception. They’ve modified the mouth of the mask so that you can see more of Aaron Johnson’s face. It allows them to keep him in the mask but still allow him a full range of expression. I prefer this solution to the way Spider-Man seems to constantly be rolling his mask up or taking it off so that we can see Tobey Maguire’s face. Here’s a great close-up of Aaron in costume:

If you’d like to see Newsarama’s other exclusive photos, check out their story, and next week, we’ll have some more exclusive photos from the film for you, as well as a fairly detailed look at Nicolas Cage, Chloe Moretz, Matthew Vaughn, Chris Mintz-Plasse, and Aaron Johnson all hard at work on one of next year’s most interesting releases.
