Man...
Well... Geez folks, I'm sorry to do this to ya, but... the news is the news.
Apparently Steve Tisch... The producer of such films as FORREST GUMP, RISKY BUSINESS, LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and WILD AMERICA has a film based on the Peter Guralnick book, LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS over at Fox.
The book came out back in 1994 and was very well received as being an excellent look at who Elvis was before he became the Icon we all later knew him as. To me... the theory of the prose strikes a real interest. Who are the famous before they were known. Were they bitter people with TALK BACK rant histories going back for years? Did they have a simple love for a girl across the street? Were their dreams big or small?
Now the key is... Who to play the young Elvis Presley? Who to get across his shyness, his religious side, his boundless energy that he manifested on stage... and at all times.. that sexy hunk of burning love stare?
Well, as is often the case these days, the word is Fox is out to Leonardo Di Caprio with the script by Tom Rickman (COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER) and Jim Uhls (THE FIGHT CLUB). Will he accept? Has he passed? Who to go out to if not for Leo? Who could play... Elvis in them late teen years?
Or should that best be left to our imaginations?
