INTO THIS FURNACE... a possibly cool crime film

Alrighty, here’s a small film to keep your eyes open
for.... It’s just a small under $5 million dollar feature,
but it’s got more than a couple of reasons for me to be
keyed up for it.
INTO THIS FURNACE
Now it’s a first time director gig, but Todd Alcott is
not entirely unfamiliar to me. He was one of them
fellas that wrote ANTZ, one of my favorite films from
last year... God I loved that script. And based on that script, I'm DYING to read this one... hint hint...
The film is one of those deconstructions of a perfect
crime movies... But, I like the sound of this one. A
group of 5 lifelong criminals have formed together
(USUAL SUSPECTS and RESERVOIR DOGS
‘though they were six criminals’) to kidnap some rich
BlueBlood type.
The criminals all have letters in place of their names:
A, B, C, D, E. And they are each a different level of
scum.
“A” is the leader of the pack and the creator of the
‘master’ plan. He’s all calm and cool, but he’s one of
them religious “I kick ass for the lord” killers... Ya
know... Because God has a hard on for killers. (I’m
being facetious folks) Word has it that John
Malkovich is being considered for the part.
“C” is Luke Wilson. One of the hardest working
actors around right now. He’s been busting his ass
ever since BOTTLE ROCKET, and here he’s playing
the nice guy in the group who overplayed his hand
and is now in WAAAAY TOO DEEP.
“D” is Private Pyle aka Vincent D’Onofrio. He’s
playing the Mike Mazursky part of the lady hating
killer with zero remorse. In fact he’s a bit into it.
He’s one depraved sicko, and I just know that
D’Onofrio is one of the best at playing this type of
role.
“E” is the dweeb fatale. A wuss that’s looking for an
out... one that pays off. This prissy bastard’ll be
played by HENRY FOOL’s James Urbaniak (Check
out Hal Hartley’s film if you haven’t... It was pretty
damn good btw).
I don’t know who’ll be playing “B” but he’ll be an
older actor.
Word also has it that Lili Taylor will be playing one
of the supporting femmes of the film, though not the
kidnap victim. I tell you, if Lili is half as good as she
was in A SLIPPING DOWN LIFE in THE
HAUNTING.... she’s going to be HUGE with that
film. It’s the kinda role that made Sigourney Weaver
and Linda Hamilton. But in this film... I have no
idea what she’s doing... but after THE HAUNTING,
she’ll definately have a following.
The film is about a month away from shooting, so if
you hear anything more on this one, let me know!
