Info on Bill Condon's next, QUEEN OF THE JEWS

Well, here's ol Mr Wolf with the latest on Bill Condon, that guy with the golden statue awarded for his brilliant script for GODS AND MONSTERS! Well, I know he's got a couple of projects over there with Clive Barker, but this is the first I believe I've heard for this film.

It was your raving about "Gods and Monsters" that perked my interest in seeing the fantastic film, which became one of my favorite films of this past year. It is for that reason that I thought I should let you know what I have recently learned about Mr. Condon's next film, "Queen of the Jews." This information is taken directly from an article about "Gods and Monsters" in today's (Friday, June 11) edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, written by Barbara Vancheri.

"Next for Condon is 'Queen of the Jews,' which he did not write but will direct. It's about Bess Myerson, the first Jewish woman to be named Miss America. It could start shooting in mid-September and will touch on her troubles--accusations of shoplifting, a corruption trial, bribery investigation connected to her lover's sordid divorce--along with her early triumph in 1945.

"'Her life is so emblematic of what women went through in the last half of the century but also, people don't know the kind of amazing discrimination and anit-Semitism she had to face when she was named Miss America. It was an incredible year,' when she was refused admittance to places in the South because she was Jewish.

"'People were just being exposed to images of the Holocaust, at the same time as America crowning a Jewish Miss America, so she became a real symbol for people, too, of a new world.'

"The movie, which would provide a juicy role for an older actress, is being made without Myerson's co-operation but Condon says, 'Weirldy enough, I hope she'll be pleased by it. You don't make a movie about someone unless you can get inside them and kind of identify with them and try to understand them.'"

I don't know if you already know about this or not, but I hope that it is of some use to you. Call me Mr. Wolf.
