Fall screeners are pouring in, but the CW says critics will not get a look at its new “90210” prior to the show’s premiere. The netlet’s statement:

"The CW and our studio partner CBS Paramount Network Television have made the strategic marketing decision not to screen "90210" for any media in advance of its premiere. We're not hiding anything . . . simply keeping a lid on 90210 until 9.02, riding the curiosity and anticipation into premiere night, and letting all our constituents see it at the same time."

NBC employed the same strategy on its awful “Knight Rider” pilot last February. Thanks no doubt to built-in name recognition, the two-hour “Rider” event was a ratings monster and spawned a series debuting Sept. 24. Despite screeners that yielded poor reviews, NBC’s “Bionic Woman,” another project that traded on a built-in brand name, premiered to very strong numbers last fall. It was cancelled after eight episodes in response to plummeting ratings. The new “90210” is overseen by Gabe Sachs & Jeff Judah, who worked on “Just Shoot Me!” and wrote two episodes of “Freaks and Geeks” before serving as showrunners of ABC’s 2004 high school drama “Life As We Know It.”
