Beaks here...
No one kicked up much fuss when the international trailer for Ridley Scott's BODY OF LIES dropped last month. Now that we're clear of Comic Con, THE DARK KNIGHT and the WATCHMEN teaser, that ought to change.
(FYI, there are HD versions available here.)
It's like an action-packed SYRIANA!
As has been made abundantly clear over the last couple of years, American audiences are not flocking to movies that deal directly with the War on Terror or the War in Iraq. Perhaps that's why Warner Brothers has opted for an October 10 release date - rather than November or December - for what should be one of their major '08 awards contenders. Or maybe they're hoping for another THE DEPARTED (which opened in October '06).
As you might know, BODY OF LIES reunites Leonardo DiCaprio with his Oscar-winning DEPARTED screenwriter William Monahan. Based on a novel by The Washington Post's David Ignatius, it's about a CIA Operative (Dicaprio) who gets jerked around by the veteran head of Jordanian intelligence (Russell Crowe) whilst attempting to take down a big-time terrorist leader. It's dense material, but it's also got a crowd-pleasing thriller bent that should win over folks who'd rather not cough up $10-a-pop to relive ongoing foreign policy blunders.
