Alrighty folks, the debate continues.... Does Battlestar Galactica move on without the old cast or with? I've heard both pitches. One by Richard Hatch in Atlanta a year ago, and the other via phone by the producer of the 'new' film. I side with Richard Hatch. His concepts and vision for where this series would go with new films or a television series is based in a love of the original material... A respect for the dream, and the acknowledgement of it's previous failings. Support Apollo, I say.
Here is my report with a cool tidbit at the end-
I attended Agamemcon III over the past weekend in Burbank, CA. Jack Stauffer (Bojay from the original Battlestar Galactica) attended. My impressions of him: What a wonderful, warm guy. VERY excited about meeting all the fans and all-around good dude.
As you know there has been a revival of BSG of sorts, Glen A. Larson (Insert "Evil Emperor" theme from Star Wars here) on one side and a group of the original actors on the other.
Glen Larson has taken out an ad in Variety letting everyone know about his plans for a BSG movie, but as far as the actors can tell, Glen doesn't have the rights. Universal has the rights. GAL has something called 'separation' rights, so he could make a spin-off, but nothing using the original. Jack's wild speculation was that Glen could do something like "Battlestar Galactica: The Adventures of the Battlestar Pegasus" or something like that, but not more of the original concept.
Richard Hatch (Apollo from BSG), John Colicos (Baltar) and Jack and others have created a 'trailer' to shop around to drive up interest. Jack was wearing his 'outfit' from the trailer at the con and it looked quite good!
NEWS: This trailer will be premiered for the public at DragonCon in Atlanta this July. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SECRET, but true fans will want to see it.
You can also check out Stauffer's BSG site at http://hometown.aol.com/~bsgbojay/event/index.htm which will give you a more in-depth explanation of what's going on.
Remember what disasters 'Lost in Space' and 'Mission Impossible' turned out to be when they lost the original casts. Let's NOT let the same thing happen to BSG.
Stay tuned.
