Well while no official people are commenting on THE HOBBIT, it certainly seems like alot of people want to talk about it. Like good the gool ol Roland Bunny here that says:
You might want to know that WETA have been scoping the local polytech / design school here in Wellington, talking to students about getting work on The Hobbit.
And then there is this fella here named Twikki who biddah biddah biddah said this:
There are going to be a total of 4 movies made. "The Hobbit" will be first. Depending upon the consumer interest in that film, each of the other three LOTR volumes will each be made into movies of their own.
The rumor of a "Tolkien's Tales" type movie with the whole movie being a mishmash of Tolkien elements shoved into a 2 hour movie is not only false, but absurd. The movies will be over 2 hours in length each and will feature CGI technology that we haven't seen the likes of yet. (In testing the CGI on a live audience, a VERY high percentage of the group could not tell the difference between a CGI human making complex physical movements and a real person making the same movements. It's scary!)
The Tolkien family is not endorsing the making of the film. Since they sold the rights long ago, and since they realize that the making of the film is going to be inevitable, they have apparently decided to lend their efforts to make it as good as possible. They feel that their absence from this film may create another fiasco like the animated version back in the '70s. The Tolkien family is yet to officially have endorsed the project.
Casting is not yet complete.
OF COURSE till Miramax or Saul Zaentz or Peter Jackson or someone else says something officially we'll just continue to wonder about wondering what the heck is gonna happen. Only the principals know for sure. It looks like the profits from SCREAM 2 could easily finance it!!!
