Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.
I haven’t had a chance to see AMERICAN TEEN yet. Wasn’t at Sundance, and the LA Film Festival screening (which sounded amazing) timed out wrong because of some family issues. But I’m a big documentary freak in general, and I love how this look at modern high school students seems to be getting the sort of affectionate praise that is normally reserved for fiction.
Today, we’ve got a first look clip courtesy of the fine folks over at Paramount Vantage. Let’s check it out:

It’s an introduction to one of the main characters, and a discussion of both cliques and his dreams of romance. Right away, you can see how this film is taking these real stories and this real footage and cutting it in a way that feels like a more traditional “movie,” which may help this cross over to an audience that might not otherwise see a documentary theatrically.
Boy, this kid seems familiar. Can’t wait to see the film for myself when it’s released later this month.
