PRAISE BE!!!!!!
Father Geek reporting that “Sister Satan” Harry’s goth-ish young sibling, 10 years his
junior, has finished, and survived, public high school. She’s walked across that stage, snagged that roll of parchment, and
shook the hand of authority that vexed her life for 4 years. Father Geek and Harry are proud as can be for there
were dark times when we felt this would never happen, when the clouds of teenage angst filled our house, and the
air was electric with tension and doubt. A scant year ago that all changed, she (on her own) pulled herself up by
the bootstraps (Doc Martin’s of course), turned her life around, facing it head on and finished her senior year in a
single semester of hard, determined work at the urban hellhole of a public school that life had predestined she
attend. Her girl friend of 7 years, CC, pulled it off as well.
So last night Father Geek and Brother Harry threw Dannie Helen Loraine Knowles a party out in the old
backyard to celebrate the fact, and her 18th birthday which occurs Monday the 31st. Her friends from the AICN crew as
well as school and work gathered together to stuff themselves on smoked brisket, grilled veggies, and other
delights starting at 7:30pm GST.(last guest left at 5am GST) At Dannie’s request we projected our beautiful pristine 16mm prints of TRON (1982) and THE ADVENTURES
OF ROBIN HOOD (1938) on to the 9 foot screen under a wonderful Texas sky filled with stars. We also showed 6
early 1930’s BETTY BOOP cartoons (Betty in Blunderland, Crazytown, Bimbo’s Initiation, etc...) for Dannie and
her guests as our campfire twinkled off the trees in our 3/4 acre wilderness preserve in the heart of Austin’s center.
Cool breezes snaked through the crowd, twisting skeletons that dangled from the tree of woe throughout our faux graveyard as we showed an old Hitchcock TV show episode. Coffin doors creeped and she made off with lots of loot of the kind that usually comes at such
events (cards, cash, flowers, joke gifts, etc...). Dannie also raked in about 8 or 9 killer babe Girl Action Figures
(she’s been collecting them for years), a lifesize human skull bank, that phantastic snow globe from NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, and Harry presented her with the keys to a 1969
VW Bug that she had been hinting at for 6 months now. She promptly dubbed it “Bundy”. Sooooooo to Alissa,
Johnny Wad, Jan, Lobo, Ginger, Quint, CC, Hooper, Peter Blood, Rainman, Joaquin, Lori, Ernie, Roro, Anya, Mr.Ed,
Ericdemex, Tom Joad and all the others who came and helped celebrate the occasion... Thanks from Dannie, Harry
and Father Geek, I hope you had fun. I know you liked the briskets!!! Oh yeah, the cats hate you!!!
