American Werewolf in Paris

Meanwhile at the other end of the fur covered creature scale is AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS. Here is a review of the finished film. I've been hearing alot of truly awful things about the film, and this seems to be a typical review. So beware. Thinks to our spy, Cinemonk for this report...

Haven't found any references to American Werewolf in Paris in AICN; perhaps screenings were a while ago? My friend said that her friend(the lawyers call this Hearsay WITHIN Hearsay!) attended a screening some months ago, it stank, and they were holding it back, pending- what? Re-shoots? Re-edits? I dunno.

Anyway, it stinks. Screening tonight in da Big Apple, preceded by the most embarassingly lame "best werewolf call" contest among about 12 audience members. Do studio publicity people really think that goofball crap like that gets people psyched for the movie? For god's sake, give ALL OF US posters, CD's, buttons, etc.- We'll all be much better predisposed toward your movie, weasels.

Ah, the movie. A few cool bits/effects/ideas. The notion of Julie Delpy as a Werewolf is pretty good. Tom Everett Scott, is pleasant enough, but at sea in a lousy plot. All sorts of confusing hooey about them falling in love, the soundtrack being loud, the Bad Werewolves wanting to create some sort of Master Race(it isn't clear if it's a race of people or wolves or what), the soundtrack being loud, the jokes being lame, eccchh.

The advance word on the director, Anthony Waller, was good, based upon "Mute Witness"(which I didn't see). Ooofah! He must've lost it big time between that movie and this. Perhaps Neil Jordan or Stephen Frears should sit him down for a little chat about what a big budget and little control can do to your art.

Oh, did I mention that the soundtrack was too loud? This puppy should head straight for video.

BTW, if you did publish items about earlier screenings of this opus, I'd love to see them- would you be kind enough to send me the url's if you have a chance? Thanks.
