I tell you, if Verhoeven delivers this script to it's fullest potential, this thing could scare the shit out of people. It ain't a campy happy film, it's... disturbing. And the idea of Kevin Bacon in the role still hasn't quite settled in, but ya know... He can be a mean mutha if he wants to be, and he's got a great voice. I can't wait to hear more about the effects, get pictures of the sets, effects, etc. This may very well end up being one of Verhoeven's most disturbing films yet. I hope...
I've been to the Hollow Man set at Sony-Columbia and it is as cool as it gets. They're going all out on the special effects on this movie and I have it from a very good source that the dailies are spectacular. There will actually be scenes in the film where Kevin Bacon, as Sebastian Cane becomes invisible one layer at a time... skin, muscle, circulatory system, skeleton, then POOF. The effects of the ripples the invisible body makes in air, water and smoke are fascinating marvels of technology.
But the sets, oh man... they maximize the descriptions in the script to create a former nuclear underground facility that has been turned into a lab.
