Here is this on set report from John Travolta's film A CIVIL ACTION. Man, we are getting geeks on sets everywhere. Cool. I love these sorts of reports, because it makes film feel special. To see people excited to just be a part of the process, no matter how small. They get soooo much out of the simplest of things. It's a thing of beauty, to see that enthusiasm. And I guarantee ya, this fellow will be among the first to go buy a ticket to see themselves up there big. I'm a sucker for it too. I have to admit to looking for spies on sets of Contact, and I actually spotted him in the film. It's great.
I just wanted to send an e-mail to y'all to let you know (and gloat) that I got to work on the film "A Civil Action" as an extra in Waltham (and, no, I didn't drink the water). I worked on it last Tuesday and today. I got paid SAG wages (well, when they pay me) about $100-110 for each day and unfortunely my screen time is just about nothing (2 seconds in the background of one shot), but I got to meet John Travolta (a very cool guy) and meet and talked to Dan Hedeya (Carla's Husband from "Cheers", "Alien 4", etc....a very down to earth guy) as well as the director (Steve Zilitian, the guy who did the screenplay for "Schinder's List") and a couple of other actors (don't know there names, but I could pick 'em out in a line up).
I also had lunch with some of the real families involed in the lawsuit 11 years ago when they visited the set, which was a replica of the factory in Woburn that was dumping toxic waste. They said that the set was increadibly accurate, except the real factory smelled real bad. They had some pretty interesteing stories to tell. I'll have to read to book to get the rest of the story.
In all, I didn't get much screen time, but it was really cool to see a HUGE Hollywood production was done and now I'm registered with the casting companies in the area to be up for future projects and I got some pictures of the set (none of the cast I'm afraid) and of me "taking direction" in my shot. (I'll try to get them scanned sometime) In other words, I have fun.
See ya.
-hey
P.S. Happy Birthday. I would've stole a jar of "toxic waste" for ya if I knew........:+}
aaawwwwwwwwwwwww, man my own jar of toxic waste would have been too cool. I could have gotten it, put on my ballerina out fit, started mopping and poured it on my head and...
