Harry's reaction to the STAR WARS EPISODE ONE reviews

Ya know folks, this is really interesting. I've never seen so many 'hesitant' reviews all in one place around one movie.

People actually seem a bit confused by their own reactions. Not being able to really say they didn't like it, but not being able to say they loved it, and ya know what?

It reminded me of what happened when ENCOUNTER AT FARPOINT aired and STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION was born.

The hard core fans wanted Classic Treks, but... there was a new generation of fans that hungered for something new... different, and then there were those that were confused by it. Ya know, it's kinda like trying them Dutch French Fries in Mayo. It's a type of food I like, but... ya know... I hadn't tried it like this before.

What we are beginning to get a picture of is this.... Are these movies for us? Are these new Star Wars films made for all us old foggie fans or are they made for a generation that hasn't really discovered it. Those kids, who like us all them years ago, are going to stumble into the theaters and be swept away. The kids that force their parents to buy it all! Kids that'll want to open and play with the toys. Will this be the case?

I don't know.

I think we've all been harboring secret unvoiced fears about the flipside to the orgasm where the Husband barges in whilst you're with this babe you picked up at the bar thinking she was single. Will this be the case? An instant loss of erection for geeks around the world?

I don't think so. In fact.... I believe we are all going to be in better shape to see this movie thinking it's not everything we hope it to be. If we walk into that theater deathly afraid of JAR JAR. Scared about the acting of Jake Lloyd, and believing that Darth Maul appears for 9 minutes of the film and speaks only a handful of lines. Then... then it may be possible that we'll become very very happy folks when we see our own perceived reality of the screening.

The final sound wasn't on these prints, and the final color correction wasn't done... but folks... these are the screenings that have been set up so critics can have their reviews out on May 19th. This is the finished film, the changes will be imperceptable to 98% of the people that see both prints.

Lucas isn't CHANGING anything. These reviews are all positive in a limited way, while a couple are quite excited.

So, read those reviews (they are non-spoiler reviews) and tell your friends your fears. Then go... get in line. Feel nervous. Feel like you're wasting your time. That this film will be shit, then let it unfurl and take you away.

Right now I'm a little kid. I got my toys, my score and my friends come over and we play. I'm getting giddy, I'm getting excited because... it's here. The reviews were not pans nor high praises nor mediocre. They were... "Not what I was expecting" kinda things. Good. Very good.

Well, I'm going to sleep now. I need to rest, I've got a long day today. Ya know, this whole Star Wars ride has been a real blast.... I can't wait to see what is coming next....
