Aug. 15 is the release date for the U.S. cinema version of “Clone Wars,” the first “Star Wars” movie not to open with 20th Century Fox’s fanfare. Warner Bros. – whose corporate siblings Cartoon Network and TNT will carry the new, Tartakovsky-free computer-animated “Clone Wars” TV series this autumn – will release the approximately 100-minute theatrical feature. The cinema version, directed by Dave Filoni ("Avatar: The Last Airbender") from a screenplay by Henry Gilroy ("The Tick," "Justice League"), Scott Murphy ("Angel") and Steven Melching (the mid-'90s "X-Men"), is computer-animated as well. Thirty half-hour episodes of the series have already been produced, with more on the way. Both movie and series are set between "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," making this Episode II 1/2, I reckon. Read all of Variety’s story on the matter here.
