A number of industry sources recently phoned in to shed some light on the early discussions going on behind-the-scenes regarding "Nightmare"...and none of them include Englund starring as Krueger. The franchise facelift includes discovering a new actor to polish up the finger knives and play the iconographic dream role Englund has practically made his second skin since '84....in an article you can find HERE. The idea of someone else as Freddy will certainly ruffle a few feathers. On the other hand...presuming this is a re-launch of the franchise from the ground up (as it appears to be)...it's certainly understandable that they'd re-cast part to a performer without baggage/the weight of pre-association; a cleaner start will come about that way. But, still, this isn't exactly the same thing as recasting Leatherface, for example. Englund performed his character...Freddy is a defined personality...where as Leatherface more-or-less lumbered along. ELM STREET is a whole different scenario than CHAINSAW; hope these factors are taken into consideration when they're putting this project together. More on this as more comes in...
