KEVIN SMITH TIDBITS!!!!!

Are you a Kevin Smith junkie? Well, so am I. He makes damn cool films, and writes damn cool scripts. So when Binky the Spy sent in this report gleamed from a billion postings to View Askew, I had to share. Sounds like there have been many irons in the fire!!!

The ‘Lost’ Kevin Smith Movies.

Here’s a run down on all the Kevin Smith Stuff other than the N.J. Trilogy and Dogma. Some of these I have a very limited knowledge on so I’m just putting down what I know. There may be a few small details I have wrong about the short films buy the rest is pretty sound. The ones marked with a * are out there (or at least the script is):

1.*Big Helium Dog, *A Better Place, *Drawling Flies, and *Vulgar- All produced by Kev’s company and some have him as an actor. I haven’t seen any but two will be showing at Vulgarfest the other two are still being edited.

2. The “Mockumentary”, The “Birthday Present” and ,”*Vegtiable Theater" - Three short films. Vegetable Theater was a quickly that Kev did for ZUG. It’s got a carrot talking to a tomato about religious persecution in Star Wars, at least until Jay & Silent Bob (played by their Blunt man and Chronic action figurers) show up. It’s a little two minuet thing that’s on the web. The Birthday Present is something Kev did for his girlfriend’s birthday. I don’t know much about it. The Mockumentary was some sort of film school short. I heard Scott talking about it in an interview. They were going to do a documentary on a chick getting a sex change or something but the chick bailed after one day so they did a documentary on not having a subject any more or something.

3. The ‘Lost Horror Flick’ -Most of the info for this one I got from a post Vincent made a few WWWboards ago. Basically Kev wrote a real supernatural horror movie for Vincent to direct. The only copy however was on a floppy disc that got lost.

4. Busing - I’ve been working my ass of to get a copy of this but I have had no luck as of yet. This is a script that Kev wrote for a studio after Clerks got picked up. It’s been described as Clerks in a restaurant (without any N.J. continuity). The studio never did anything with it and Miramax bought it back. Kev planed to make it after Dogma but has since decided not to. Instead he will use some of the better jokes in his two post Dogma flicks the top secret ultimate Jersey flick, and “Name” (with Jeff Anderson, Jay Mews and Alanis Moresette)

5. *Superman Lives- Here it lies in all it’s glory. A fine comic book adaptation. Plus it had a few sly NJ references such as a missile called the LEX 37, an admiral named Derres and Mayor Bree (of f**king a dead guy fame) who’s son was named Brody. I won’t waist any more of your time with this one because I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about it. I’ll just say that you may want to conceder tracking down a copy.

6. *The Six Million Dollar Man- One of Kev’s best. A real exciting action with some good humor and GREAT dialogue. Personally I thought this was more exciting than Superman. It would have been a great movie but alas, it is no more.

7. *Overnight Delivery- This, as well as the last two, are prime examples that studio execs are asses. Kev rewrote a really crappy script and made something really funny. What it lacked in obscenities it made up for in pure ranch. Truck drivers whacking it off, used condoms and s and m in a parking lot. A fairly cliche’ story that Kev brought light (and dialogue) to. But the studios hired the director that did Bio-Dome, he cast Reese Witherspoon as a comic book loving striper, changed the dialogue around and cut out a hilarious Jay and Silent Bob cameo (called X and Silent X in the script). Plus Kev was denied a writing credit by the writers guild of America. This movie apparently was sooo bad that it will be released straight to video if at all. Do your selves a favor and hunt down a copy of this. The 6th draft (the one I read) was a real treat.
