No viewer seemed to much care for Michael driving his rental into the water last week. Would it have saved the episode, I wonder, had Michael merely mistakenly driven out onto a dock that unexpectedly collapsed? On onto a slippery bank that sucked the car into the water? NBC describes tonight’s installment:

Oct. 11 "LAUNCH PARTY" THE WORLDWIDE WEB -- The Dunder Mifflin Infinity website is launching and Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) is excited about going to the big launch party in New York while Angela (Angela Kinsey) plans a satellite party for the Scranton branch. Meanwhile, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) competes against the website to see who can sell the most paper in one day. John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B.J. Novak, Melora Hardin, Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Paul Lieberstein, Oscar Nunez, Phyllis Smith, Creed Bratton, and Craig Robinson also star.

I look forward with even greater anticipation to next week’s “Money,” which will see Pam and Jim visiting Dwight’s new bed-and-breakfast. Some photography:

In other “Office” news, Joss Whedon, who directed the Ryan’s business school/Pam’s art exhibit/Dwight’s vampire bat episode last season, will return to helm this season’s 10th half hour. “Jim kills Pam, which I thought was weird," Whedon tells TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello. "I probably shouldn't have revealed that. It's gruesome, but not without a bit of wry humor. It's territory I'm familiar with and I'm excited about it." Also, unless someone is perpetrating an enormous scam, the cast and writers of “The Office,” which shoots in Van Nuys, Calif., are going to be in the real Scranton, Pa., in about two weeks to attend a convention dedicated to the not-quite-three-year-old series.
