I am – Hercules!!
There’s a lot to do at Comic Con this year, and here’s a rundown of some of the bigger TV-related events that caught my eye, and may catch yours as well:
THURSDAY
12:30-1:30 Star Trek, The Original Series: As You’ve Never Seen It — I’ve certainly never seen “Star Trek” in HD, but they’re showing the new HD version here. Panelists include Great Bird spawn Rod Roddenberry and some dudes from CBS DVD. Room 6CDEF
1:30-3:30 Paramount Pictures — This is maybe when J.J. Abrams announces that Zach Quinto will play Young Spock in the new Star Trek movie. Will we learn also who plays Jim Kirk and Bones McCoy and Montgomery Scott and Robert April and Koloth and Chris Pike and Old Jonny Archer? (This Paramount event will also feature Indiana Jones, Iron Man, Neil Gaiman, Andy Samberg, Beowulf, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Stardust and Hot Rod.) Hall H
4:00-5:00 Popeye : Well Blow Me Down! — Not technically TV, though that’s where most of us met the sailor man. This thing promotes the new 1933–1938 Volume 1 DVD. Panelists include Popeye vets Frank Caruso and Stephen DeStefano and film historian Jerry Beck. Popeye rocks. Room 6B
5:00-6:00 Lost Season 4 — Showrunners Carlton Cuse Damon Lindelof are supposed to make some season-four announcements, including the return of Walt’s dad Michael. Ballroom 20
6:00-7:00 40 Years Of Star Trek — Superfans react to the casting of Shia LeBeouf (or whomever) as Young Jim Kirk. Room 5AB
FRIDAY
11:00-12:00 Reaper: Exclusive Pilot Screening — I’ve seen this pilot! It’s about a kid who finds out his parents sold him to the devil! “Twin Peaks” icon Ray Wise stars as Satan! It’s worth your valuable time! (But you’ll have to miss most of the Warner Bros. movie presentation in Hall H, where they’re touting the “Watchmen” movie. Which would be nutty to skip.) Ballroom 20
12:15-1:15 Stargate SG-1: The Movie — Never-before-seen footage from the new direct-to-video movie and a Q&A with Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge and director Robert Cooper. Ballroom 20
12:45-1:45 The Spectacular Spider-Man — A new Kids’ WB animated series focused on Spidey’s earliest days as a crimefighter. Panelists include creators and Josh Keaton (The Young & The Restless), who gives the new Spidey voice. Room 6CDEF
1:30-2:00 Moonlight Screening and Panel — David Greenwalt explains the differences between Greenwalt’s WB vampire-detective series “Angel” and Greenwalt’s CBS vampire-detective series “Moonlight.” Jason Dohring, who segues from Silver’s “Veronica Mars” to Silver’s “Moonlight,” panels, as do co-stars Alex O’Loughlin, Sophia Myles, Shannon Sossamon, Amanda Righetti and Jeffrey Combs. Room 6A
1:15-2:15 Stargate Atlantis — Panelists include Amanda Tapping, David Hewlett, and writer-producers Joe Mallozzi and Robert Cooper. Ballroom 20
1:30-2:30 24 — A look at season seven with producers Evan Katz, Manny Coto, David Fury, and Jon Cassar. Jack Bauer was almost in Africa for a couple of season-seven episodes! Somebody! Ask how that was supposed to work in the series’ real-time format? Room 6B
2:45-4:00 Chuck Screening and Q&A — I’ve seen this pilot! “O.C.” mastermind Josh Schwartz created a sci-fi spy comedy for NBC and it’s pretty cool. Adam Baldwin plays the menacing government goon assigned to babysit the title character, who has somehow absorbed all manner of critical data. Schwartz and Baldwin and pretty Yvonne Strahovski and Sarah Lancaster panel. Room 6B
4:15-5:45 The Batman/Legion of Super-Heroes — “The Batman” returns for its fourth season and “Legion” returns for its second season this fall. The shows’ creators and casts explain what’s to come. Room 6B
4:45-5:45 Eureka — A sneak peak at season two. Panelists include Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson, Ed Quinn, Joe Morton and co-creator Jaime Paglia. Room 6CDEF
5:00-6:00 Star Wars at 30 Years with Steve Sansweet — Sansweet is head of Lucasfilm Fan Relations. Will he have anything to say about the upcoming TV series? Hall H
6:00-7:00 Babylon 5: The Lost Tales — The new made-for-DVD movie is touted by Bruce Boxleitner, Tracy Scoggins, Peter Woodward and “Babylon” mastermind J. Michael Straczynski. Room 6CDEF
7:15-9:00 Doctor Strange World Premiere Screening and Panel — It’s Marvel’s direct-to-DVD animated follow-up to “Ultimate Avengers” and “Invincible Iron Man.” Room 6CDEF
8:15-10:15 Eureka and Superhero Screenings — Watch an unaired episode of “Eureka” and re-watch the season premiere of “Who Wants To Be A Superhero” that aired Thursday. “Eureka” star Colin Ferguson appears. The first 1,000 attendees will receive Feedback’s Dark Horse comic book. Room 6B
SATURDAY
9:15-10:15 Pushing Daisies Screening and Panel – I saw this pilot! It’s my favorite of the fall! “Daisies” was created by Bryan Fuller, who also created “Dead Like Me” and “Wonderfalls” and wrote some of the best episodes of “Heroes” last season. Fuller will be on hand as will cast members Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride and Kristin Chenoweth and director Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black”), who directed the pilot. There will also be a special “Pushing Daisies” comic book with a Tim Sale cover that will only be available to attendees of the screening. The first 300 people get slices of pie. Room 6CDEF
10:00-11:15 Bionic Woman: Pilot Screening and Q&A — I saw this pilot! They call it “Bionic Woman” instead of “The Bionic Woman” because there’s more than one. “Galactica’s” Katee Sackhoff is supercool as the fucked-up prototype who came along before Jaime Sommers. Miguel Ferrer, who played the guy who masterminded the cyborg in "RoboCop" two decades ago, plays the guy who masterminded the cyborgs in "Bionic Woman." Sackoff, Ferrer, the other cast members and writer-producer Jason Smilovic (“Karen Sisco,” “Kidnapped”) all panel. Ballroom 20
10:30-11:30 Avatar: The Last Airbender, Season 3 Sneak Peek — M. Night Shyamalan wants to make this animated show into a series of live-action movies. Meet the show’s creator and head writer, among others. Room 6A
10:45-12:00 The Simpsons — This panel celebrates the new movie and the 400th episode. The series sucks now, of course, but one hears the movie – which benefits from some scripting by James L. Brooks and Albert Brooks playing President Schwarzenegger’s EPA chief – turned out OK. Neither Brooks is expected to panel. Hall H
11:30-12:30 TV Guide Hot List — I’d rather go to this than “The Simpsons” panel. Here’s how Comic Con’s website describes it: “The hippest and hottest names in supernatural/ fantasy/sci-fi television, as featured in TV Guide’s current collector’s issue, will offer sneak peeks at what’s coming up on their shows as well as a look at the genre’s future on the small screen. Panelists include (in alphabetical order) Ira S. Behr (The 4400), Billy Campbell (The 4400), Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), Tim Kring (Heroes), Masi Oka (Heroes), Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman), and Skeet Ulrich (Jericho), among others to be announced. TV Guide’s West Coast Bureau Chief Craig Tomashoff moderates.” Ballroom 20
12:45-2:00 Heroes: Exclusive Volume II Clip and Q&A — Panelists are expected to include series mastermind Tim Kring as well as Hayden Panettiere, Masi Oka, Zachary Quinto, Milo Ventimiglia, Jack Coleman, Noah Gray-Cabey, Greg Grunberg, Ali Larter, James Kyson Lee, Adrian Pasdar, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Dania Ramirez. Ballroom 20
2:15-3:15 Battlestar Galactica — Panelists include showrunner Ronald D. Moore, producer David Eick, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, and Tricia Helfer. (Sadly, you’ll have to miss the start of Disney’s Pixar/Narnia II event in Hall H to catch this.) Ballroom 20
2:45-3:45 Supernatural Screening and Q&A — Panelists Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, creator Eric Kripke and writer-producer Ben Edlund talk about the upcoming third season. (Again, conflicts with the big Disney event.) Room 6CDEF
3:30-4:30 Futurama — A sneak peek at the new episodes headed for Comedy Central. Panelists include creators David X. Cohen and Matt Groening, as well Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, and Maurice LaMarche. Ballroom 20
4:45-5:45 Joss Whedon — The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” mastermind talks about his hugely successful “Season Eight” comic and the other stuff he’s been up to. Ballroom 20
5:15-6:30 The Sarah Connor Chronicles Screening and Q&A — I saw this pilot! Summer Glau and Lena Headey get very naked together in a very public place! Is true!! This event is screening an special extended Comic Con version of the pilot. Paneling are stars Glau, Headey, Thomas Dekker and Richard T. Jones (Event Horizon), as well as showrunner Josh Friedman. Room 6CDEF
5:45-7:00 The Film Crew: Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett — The MST3K vets preview excerpts from three of their MST3K-like direct-to-DVD projects: “Killers From Space,” “Wild Women of Wongo,” and “Giant Of Marathon.” Room 6B
6:30-7:30 Smallville Screening and Q&A — Meet the new Supergirl, Laura Vandervoort, who panels with Erica Durance (Lois Lane), Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen) and Phil Morris (J’onn J’onzz), as well as showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar. Room 6CDEF
7:45-8:45 The Sarah Silverman Program — One of the funniest current sitcoms on any channel. Paneling are Sarah Silverman, Laura Silverman, Brian Posehn, Steve Agee and Jay Johnston. Room 6CDEF
9:00-11:30 Buffy the Vampire Slayer 10th Anniversary Screening — I know it’s late, but you should never miss a chance to see “Buffy” with an audience. Two episodes screen, including my all-time favorite, “Once More with Feeling.” (Don’t be shocked if the other one is “Hush.”) Room 5AB
SUNDAY
10:45-11:45 TV Guide: Super(Natural) Women — The Comic Con description: “Some of prime time’s most fantastic females will tell all about how they’ve been able to make it in what has traditionally been a (super) man’s world. Panelists include (in alphabetical order) Jenni Baird (The 4400), Allison DuBois (real life inspiration for Medium), Lisa Klink (Painkiller Jane), Lucy Lawless (Battlestar Galactica, Xena Warrior Princess), Marti Noxon (Private Practice, Buffy The Vampire Slayer); and several others.” Room 6CDEF
11:45-12:30 Tin Man: Story Time — “Tin Man” is a December SciFi Channel miniseries very loosely based on L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” It stars Zooey Deschanel, Neal McDonough, Alan Cumming, Richard Dreyfus, and Callum Keith Runnie. Kathleen Robertson, who plays the evil sorceress Azkadellia, offers a reading that pays tribute to the book, and there will be a “sneak peak” of the mini.
12:00-1:00 The 4400 — The current, ongoing season is discussed. Panelists include Megalyn Echikunwoke, Conchita Campbell, Jenni Baird, Jeffrey Combs and showrunner Ira Steven Behr. Room 6CDEF
1:15-2:15 Jericho — Behold season-two footage and extras from the season-one DVD. Panelists Skeet Ulrich, Lennie James, Ashley Scott, and creators Carol Barbee, Karim Zreik, Dan Shotz, and Jon Steinberg. Room 6CDEF
2:30-3:30 Flash Gordon — The new Queen-free TV take on the classic sci-fi franchise is discussed by stars Eric Johnson and Gina Holden and showrunner Peter Hume. Room 6CDEF
