In my opinion, each and every film Oliver Stone has been a part of has been... well fantastic discussion material, and often times he makes some of the most powerful and compelling films around. While I think JFK is brilliant, a part of me wishes he hadn't made it, because of the 'Kook' reputation he was labelled with after making it. Often times it seems his name brings a giggle like you just mentioned the Manson/Geraldo interview or something. The script on the film is very very strong, but for now... here's a report from up in Dallas... from Diello...
The Dallas Morning News printed a tidbit on Oliver Stone's NFL movie "On Any Given Sunday" (or "The League", I've heard both titles). It will be filming here in Dallas for a couple of weeks in April. They'll be shooting in Texas Stadium in Irving, actually. They've already held tryouts (not auditions, mind you) for football players, I believe Gridiron Productions did the casting (you had to have at least 4 years college football experience and be able to run a 4.5 second 40 yard dash) and the likes of former Dallas Cowboy players Lincoln Coleman and Tony Hill made it through the "combine." Anywho, on April 10, the shoot will be open to the public to be extras in the crowd (I believe they've already done the extras casting for sideline people). The shoot goes from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. but people are welcome to come and go as you please (although the first 7500 will be served lunch). The paper said that most of the cast will be there (Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, LL Cool J, etc.) and that merchandise from the film will be given away. Yea. The most interesting thing in the article was that they said that Oliver Stone is asking for the crowd to wear "red and gold, the colors of the Dallas Knights." It said that the Dallas Knights are the team that the movie will center around. I don't know if that has been reported before, or even if anyone cares, but I found it interesting. A team in Dallas, that has the colors of the San Francisco 49ers? No wonder the NFL is having a fit about the movie! And of course the only Knights in my book are the New York Knights!
That's all I've got. Maybe I'll see you there. I'll be the one throwing batteries at Jerry Jones.
