What’s BORDERTOWN, And What Is Jennifer Lopez Doing There?!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. I’m really not familiar with this one, but it sounds like something different for Lopez, and I’m all for movie stars pushing themselves. Does it pay off? Well, here’s one spy’s opinion:

Hi Harry, Every tuesday I go to the "Sneak Preview" here in a theatre in Rotterdam. You pay for your ticket, you sit down and you don't know which movie you're about to see, but you know you're gonna see a movie that won't come out for at least several weeks. Usually we see movies that are new to us, but that are already covered on AICN. Tonight we saw a movie that hasn't been covered yet and I think that people should definitely check it out when the movie hits theatres in the US next August. "Bordertown" stars Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas. It is a story about a girl who works at a factory at the US/Mexican border, assembling TV's along with thousands of other mexican girls. The TV's are being assembled by young women because they seem to complain the least. In this town, calles Juarez, these young women get raped and killed all the time since about 1993. Officials claim that the death count is up about 350, but the real number seems to bo beyond 5.000. Anyway, on her way home, she gets raped and the 2 rapists leave her for dead and bury her. She isn't dead and she manages to crawl from beneath the dirt and gets home. She and her mother go to see the only newspaper that seems to be doing anything against The rest of the story is the-one-with-the-reporter-trying-to-blow-this-thing-wide-open (although Jennifer Lopez never says those words so no cliché there). I think that people should see this movie because it follows a trend of awareness-movies like blood diamond and the constant gardner about western society fucking poor people in the ass in order to receive the wealthy life we all dream about. This story is about the big screen tv's we all seem to want nowadays, but only can get at such prices because the women who assemble them, keep getting murdered a few miles south of the border. The "big japanese/american electronics-companies" probably find it too expensive to make sure their employees get home safely after their shift. As Jennifer Lopez's character's news-editor (played very nicely by Martin Sheen) roughly says (I can't remember it well, but it went something like this: "There's no freedom of press anymore. Corporate America is running the show now, so we can have entertainment, that's our bright and shiny future!" Anyway, the movie is no groundbreaking theatrical experience, but people should still see it. Certainly when they can cough up 10 bucks to see a piece of crap, they sure can pay for a movie that'll start a conversation. And that is all I want to say about that. Greetings from Holland, Fubaruba
