Herc Closes In
On THE CLOSER!!

I am – Hercules!! I watched my first episode of “The Closer” over the weekend, mostly because TNT sent along a copy of its third-season premiere, and I quite enjoyed it. It reminded me a little of the old “Homicide” series, when detective Frank Pembleton would sweat out his suspects with these genius interrogations. Kyle Gallner, who turned out to be the big bad on “Veronica Mars” two seasons ago, plays a role with a lot of similarities to Beav Casablancas as a rich kid accused of killing his own parents and kid sister. USA Today says:
… Kyra Sedgwick is back in The Closer, and her performance as L.A. deputy police chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is as sharp and entertaining as ever. … This week, at least, she has less of a load to lift, as the mystery and the guest-star suspects are all above The Closer's norm.
Entertainment Weekly gives it an “A-minus” and says:
… The twist in this week's case is easier to spot than that kid's dilated pupils, but there's a very funny subplot (about LAPD budget cutbacks) in which Johnson blithely disobeys her boss (J.K. Simmons), and the interrogation scenes are as tautly thrilling as ever.…
The Chicago Tribune says:
… There are few purer pleasures than watching Kyra Sedgwick play Brenda Leigh Johnson. …
9 p.m. Monday. TNT.
