Spock no more'

A troublesome tribble shivered and shaked the following from a live and in person talk from Leonard "Spock" Nimoy that was at USC. Not much, but it does clarify a couple of rumors.

Leonard Nimoy gave a lecture this evening at USC to discuss the making of the STAR TREK film series, and, in particular, the best one of them all, STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME which Nimoy created and directed.

Included were hilarious outakes from the films and an inside look at the inconspicuous special effects. (Remember the whales? None of those shots was real!)

Recalling a rumor that Nimoy would reprise Spock in TREK 9 because it involved the Vulcans and the Romulans, I asked if Nimoy would be doing any future Trek projects. He denied that he would ever do any Trek films again. He said that he HAD been contacted by the studio to be in TREK 9 but had refused the role. He noted that he didn't feel he wanted to be in any long-term projects "at this period in my life," but that he has been working with John de Lancy ("Q" from THE NEXT GENERATION) on narrating a series of classic science fiction novels (Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, etc.) in audiobook format.
