I am – Hercules!!
After tonight, only one more season of “The Shield” remains! Beware those uninvisotexted spoilers!
Episode 6.10
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. This is it folks. One of the greatest seasons of the one of the best shows on the tube right now. And we can take great comfort in knowing that creator Shawn Ryan is bringing Vic and the team back for one more season in 2008 for a full 13 episodes. Tonight's extra-long episode 6.10 is the season finale, and it's called "Spanish Practices." Read on...
Vic shows up at Aceveda's door with the blow job photo in hand and a "request" for help at his appeals hearing. Aceveda simply claims that the photo is a fake, but that doesn't stop him from sending his lawyer after Vic at the Barn with loads of legal threats if the photo is released. Vic approaches Aceveda's top backer Cruz (the guy who gave him the photo) saying that the photo carries no weight without Vic knowing the story behind it and Vic holding all the copies of it.
Shane meets with Franka again at her father's death bed, where she pays him the money for the money train intel. Shane advises her against retaliation since the Armenians have been under the police radar for some time and killing cops would change that. But she says it's too late and that the wheels are already in motion with assassins on the way. Shane meets with her recently jailed (thanks to him) opposition to make a deal to put him back in power in exchange for finding out who Franka has sent to kill Vic. He makes certain Shane understands that the killers will not just kill Vic and Ronnie, but their families too. Shane attempts to track down the hitman, but Franka calls him back to the hospital to let him know that his visit to her enemy is a betrayal and now he must pay as well. Shane threatens to choke the remaining life out of her father if he's not allowed to leave, which she does.
Vic goes back to Aceveda not to blackmail him again but to form an alliance. He tells him who gave him the photo and promises to help him take down Cruz. The two arrange to have the suitcase filled with $230,000 in cash released to the one-armed Mexican official Romero so Vic can follow him and see where he takes it. Vic finds out that Cruz and his gang connections are working to buy up Farmington land and develop it for business that will be run by Mexican organized crime. Vic advises Aceveda to stay close to Cruz rather than put distance himself. Aceveda approaches Cruz for money to deal with the Vic situation, which he is happy to do in return for Aceveda's help in securing information crucial to redistricting Farmington to his advantage.
Shane shows up at Corrine's house to take Vic's family to safety, but she believes he's there to kill them. He pulls a gun on them to hurry up the process, which doesn't do much to put them at ease. He takes them to a secure location and locks them in the back of a moving van with no explanation, believing this is the safest place for them. Upon retuning to Vic's house, Shane fends off the first assassin, who is gut shot in a struggle. Shane makes a deal with the man to let him go for medical attention if he promises to forget the contract, or Shane will finish him.
Dutch finds out he was spotted watching Tina and Hyatt having sex. He's convinced that Billings set it up, but he can't prove it. Dutch and Danny have a nice moment discussing office crushes, and toward the end of the episode they share another sweet moment in the locker room.
After Aceveda and Vic figure out Cruz's redistricting scheme, he provides Vic with tips on how he thinks he can survive the review board.
Hyatt jumps the gun on a gang initiation tip, and Vic and Ronnie have to clean up his mess. This screw up on Hyatt's part (as well as his not revealing a sexual relationship with another officer) leads Claudette to believe he isn't right for the Strike Team leadership job (he's not enough like Vic, I guess) and cuts him loose.
Billings suddenly announces that his doctor has signed off on his being disabled from injuries sustained breaking up a fight between Vic and Kavanaugh, and he is now leaving the force and suing for millions of dollars in pain and suffering.
Vic and Claudette have a nice scene together, feeling each other out about future plans. Then Vic finds out there are shots fired at Corrine's house. Shane makes arrangements with the new Armenian leadership to keep Vic and Ronnie alive in exchange for his paying back the money train cash in trade, essentially becoming the snitch inside the department for the Armenians. Vic thinks that Shane took his family as part of a scare tactic in conjunction wit the Armenians.
Vic's family meets him outside the room where the review board is about to take place, but when Vic is called into the meeting, he walks out of the building. Vic follows the Mexican money man, pulls him over, and beat the crap out of him before popping the guy's truck.
Shane heads back to the hospital to warn her that killers are on the way to murder her and her family. But she refuses to move until she pulls the plug on her father, not wanting his fate to be in the killers' hands. Shane takes off leaving her there to fend for herself.
Aceveda shows up at Vic's location to look through boxes of files in the Mexican money man's trunk. The files are filled with incriminating and other scandalous material on nearly all major political figures in California, which Cruz has clearly been using to push his plans forward. This revelation and Vic driving away with the files sets up Season 7 for Vic and Aceveda to join forces and take down Cruz and the Mexican mob. Good luck with that, guys.
I realize some of you prefer the down-and-dirty, drug-dealing, baby-killing, child-molesting types of crimes on this show, but I really dig this examination of the top-to-bottom way that crime works and how something on the street level affects the way government works and vice versa. Not that there has been any shortage of the sex and gruesome violence we've grown to love about and expect from "The Shield."
