Robert Rodriguez is making BARBARELLA... My Balls Just Exploded!!!

Harry here... this story just got posted on VARIETY and I grabbed my phone and called Rodriguez - "I told you it was the coolest thing ever!" before I even said a word. Robert Rodriguez is making an R-rated BARBARELLA that is being written right now by the writers behind CASINO ROYALE - Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. With Dino De Laurentiis and Martha De Laurentis producing. Robert is making this his adult sexy science fiction action adventure film. I've never heard him so jazzed about a project. When I called Robert, he was in Cannes and was in the midst of joyous conversation with "The Mexican Mafia" - aka Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu - who stole his phone to tease me anonymously. They're all so jazzed about this project for Rodriguez. Robert is making the film for UNIVERSAL - and man... can you imagine. Robert grew up reading HEAVY METAL magazine and in all likelihood we'll see that sort of flavor mixed with that of the look of BARBARELLA- and he has no plan to make this a campy film. That this is going to shoot here... in Austin... Holy shit... This is going to be amazing! Oh - and this is Robert's next film!
