GEMINI MAN Is Not Dead Yet!!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. Has it really been ten years this one’s been making its way through the development mill? Seems like as long as there's been an AICN, people have been talking about making GEMINI MAN. I remember at one point when Harry was waxing rhapsodic about what sort of technology was going to be used to bring this idea to life. Basically, some action star is going to play two roles in this... one as himself, and one as a much-younger version of himself. The kick would be getting someone who was a star when much younger and getting them to play opposite that iconic younger version we remember, like Sean Connery or Harrison Ford. Can you imagine seeing HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER-era Connery having to go head-to-head with THUNDERBALL-era Connery? Movie geek bliss. I have no idea who they’re planning to use if they actually make the film this time around, but the big news is that there’s a new writer on it, and it’s a fairly big-name A-list guy, so Disney must feel like it’s worth continued development. Let’s see where this goes this time, according to this story in Variety:

Walt Disney Pictures has tapped scribe David Benioff to bring his take to the long-gestating action project "Gemini Man." Benioff -- who'll pocket a fee of $2 million -- will be doing a ground-up reworking of the story of an over-the-hill hitman forced to do battle with a younger clone of himself. Pic will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who boarded the project about nine months ago; Bruckheimer toppers Mike Stenson and Chad Oman will exec produce along with Angry Films' Don Murphy. Jason Reed will act as creative executive for the Mouse. Over the years, a number of writers have been linked with the project, including "Armageddon" and "Next" scribe Jonathan Hensleigh.
