Merrick here...
…with some images from this weekend’s STAR TREK Remastered. It’s THE IMMUNITY SYNDROME, in which Enterprise plunges into a super giganto space amoeba that lives in a black void and sucks away people‘s life forces before absorbing them completely (I married this thing once...twice actually). This is the episode which opens with said amoeba gobbling a shipload of Vulcans off screen (insert Nelson’s “Ehhhh heh” here)
The amoeba looks like a giant lava lamp – and its original iteration was particularly memorable for its bright, psychedelic appearance. While the revamped amoeba effect seems a tad muted for my taste (and appears to lose some of the lifeform’s startling visual vibrancy), the essence of its psychedelia is more or less intact. Of course, I’m saying this not having seen the footage embiggened & in motion on my TV set – not to mention seeing it in HD, where it could rock completely for all I know.
First up, an almost exact duplication of a classic shot from the original series.

Here’s another angle of the ship closing in on the tie dye:

I really like the revised shot above because it evokes this subsequent angle/image from STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE...

Finally, an orangier view of Enterprise deeper inside the amoeba.

HERE's a list of airdates and stations showing the Remastered TREK. If you can't find a station near you, they can also be downloaded via XBOX Live (where an increasing number of episodes are available in High Definition - the series is not shown in HD by many broadcasters).
