A look at THE OUT OF TOWNERS and TRUE CRIME by the Juice

I kinda make it a point to see each and every single Clint Eastwood movie... on account of the fact that he just about rocks the ages... I just recently caught this trailer though... and well... it just didn't do all that much for me, but I'll be there seeing it as soon as it comes out. Hope it's good. I'm in a bit of an Eastwood mood...

Hey Harry, the Juice here, Ive been reading your site for a long time and I must say its absolutely incredible! Anyways I have a good friend who has connections at a major movie chain so I get to see alot of screening but have never gave you my opinion before anyhow here's my two cents on these unfotunate flops;

The Out of Towners! Triumphant return of our favorite comedy pairing! Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin, right!? Wrong...this is missing everything (for those of you who saw something in it) that House Sitter may have had. The rather predictable plot is quite boring. Movie begins with son leaving for college in England, and Steve and Goldie have seemingly grown out of touch, unfortunately Steve has been layed off but isnt up to telling his wife, so they take a trip to New York for fun? No Stevo has a job interview. Anyways just about anything that could possibly go wrong with their trip does, many episodes rather predictable, and some flat out unfunny. One bright spot in the movie seems to be John Cleese, the Monty Python alum is rather humorous in his role as a cross dressing hotel manager, of course all in all in the end Steve saves the day and lands the dream marketing job! Sounds great huh? Nope, the whole time I just felt like ive seen it before...

Next we come to True Crime, I hear it was a rather good book which infuriates me further more. What is it with Clint Eastwood and book movies? Does he think hes good at em? Dont get me wrong i love Eastwood as much as the next western fan but the man is getting senile in his old age. For example Absolute Power was one of the best books ive read in years, years for crying out loud! The movie was horrible, horrible i tell you. Left out some of the best parts of the book, and Eastwood even had the audacity to change the ending to let his character live. Another great book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Eastwood took the privilage to disect this one as well, after reading numerous negative reviews of the movie, i decided to keep the good memories i had of the book and to skip the movie, anyhow now we come to True Crime. First of all Eastwood is old enough to be my grandpa and one of the very first scenes (mark my word) is Clint getting the grove on with a 20 year old woman in a bar. Now im sorry throughout the movie his character is portrayed as being a womanizer and i just cant get that vibe from him, everyone in the theater laughed out loud when he started to walk around shirtless during a "love" scene with his boss's wife (who happens to be about 30). And of course his 28 year old wife gets angry when she finds out. Anyhow im not talking about the movie enough (sorry just some things in this film bothered me!), so the plot goes as such Eastwood is a reporter whose career is on the rocks, and he's given a story about a man who is to be executed that very day for a crime he swears he didnt do, so from there Clint uses his "nose" to crack the case. Im still pretty sure this could have been a good movie if its was saved from Clint's overacting and inability to develope suspense. Anyhow there are some good performances from Denis Leary (in a very un-Denis Leary role) as well as the family of the man who is on death row.
