Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It's been known that Steven Spielberg was after the TINTIN rights since the early '80s. In fact, I was under the impression that Spielberg already had them. In fact, when I met the man on the WAR OF THE WORLDS set he talked about TINTIN, specifically a Weta test reel he received with Peter Jackson actually acting in it... the whole thing showing off Snowy, Tintin's dog, a completely CG creation from the wizards at Weta.
They just announced that Herge Studios, which owns the 23 book series, finalized their deal with Amblin/Spielberg/Dreamworks, stressing that Spielberg will most likely only act as producer.
The Tintin stuff is really fun and could make a great adventure series, especially if Spielberg takes a hands-on approach to the producing and judging from the length of time he's spent pursuing the rights I'd imagine it's a safe bet that he really wants this property to be made and made well.
So now it's officially official, so says Hollywood Reporter.
