See Some Retroriffic MEET THE ROBINSONS Machines!! (Not The LOST IN SPACE Robinsons...But We Talk About Them, Too!!)

Merrick again... DragonRider23 sent in some developmental art from MEET THE ROBINSONS, which opens at the end of this month. Whenever I hear the title of this film, I instinctively think it's a LOST IN SPACE sitcom - but it isn't. This one has gloomy cities of the future, and a bunch of time machines...all of which you can get a sense of below:

The "feel" of these time machines reminds me of Dino De Laurentiis' FLASH GORDON (which, in turn, took inspiration from elsewhere). Call me a sentimentalist, but I’m kind of a sucker for giant robotic attack spiders. You know, now that I think about it, a pilot for a series called THE ROBINSONS was shot...it was a revamped LOST IN SPACE...the pilot was directed by John Woo and never aired. I've seen it. It's not terribly inspired, filled with unnesessarily beautiful people, but it wasn't as altogether awful as one might expect (this isn't to say it was terribly promising, either). There's a really cool explosive decompression shot in it...someone running towards the camera in John Woo slow motion...the bulkhead shatter behind him...he gets sucked into space (more or less in one shot). What does this have to do with MEET THE ROBINSONS? Nothing at all, other than it's about a family named Robinson. Here are some clips from the defunct LIS pilot:
