Mongo looks at the rerelease of FANTASTIC PLANET

Alright! Here's a good one for you folks to check out. This is literally one of the most surreal film experiences you'll ever have. With it having a rerelease... I'm excited. I've seen it projected over the years at a few cool conventions, but I've never seen a 35mm print. If you get a chance... don't let this film skip by without a look. With the possible exception of YELLOW SUBMARINE, this is one of the coolest weird animated flicks... Now, if only they'd rerelease FIRE AND ICE...

Been a while since I sent in my last scoop, know you loved them all... ;) I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for but here it goes anyway...

There was this crazy animated flick that has lurked in the bruised brain creases of the lucky few who actually saw it when it was origionally released waaay back in the 1970's and then floated off into the ether. Those few that saw it spoke of it in hushed tones. If you hung out in the shadowy corners of the cons late at night and listened carefully, there might be some odd bug-eyed geek that spoke of it as a "Mystical Experience that defied explanation".

The name of the mystical movie in question is FANTASTIC PLANET as I'm sure you well know Harry, and I'm sure you also know that there are a few tapes of it floating around some of the more obscure mom and pop video stores.

But now... well, now it's back in all it's glory and winning awards to boot. This Franco-Czechoslovakian work is being shown around the U.S. in a glorious new 35mm print that just this year was the Special Grand Prize winner at Cannes.

This one is supposed to be cooool!

"Is it" you ask?

That's right, I have yet to see it. Always hoped that my first memories of this flick would be on the big screen - as it was meant to be - and now I have my chance.

FANTASTIC PLANET is playing in Seattle March 12-18 at the Egyptian Theatre. It's part of the Landmark/Seven Gables theatre chain so I'm sure it will make it's way around the country as it's a national chain. Watch for it to drop it's psychic payload at a theatre near you... and don't say you weren't warned. Everything I've heard is that it's no kiddie flick, no musical theatre numbers and no ass-kissin sidekicks, erm, unless you cound the humans...

I'll drop you a review of it after I peel my eyes off the screen. See ya in the funny papers Harry,

mongo.
