It was written by Tom Schulman (“Dead Poets Society,” “Honey I Shrunk The Kids,” “What About Bob?”) and Rafael Yglesias (“From Hell,” “Dark Water”), based on the 2004 book "The Anatomy of Hope: How People Prevail in the Face of Illness" by New Yorker scribe Dr. Jerome Groopman.
