Ya know... if true this really kinda chaps my hide. Ya see, for me, Dreamworks was a studio that supported artistic vision and integrity. If the rumors that Steven felt this script of Cameron's was the best script he has ever read.... if the review we had a little bit ago was on.... Well then shoot the damn thing. There are all types of reasons to rewrite scripts that are not good... but this is a script we heard was GREAT. And if this was a GREAT SCRIPT, well then... perhaps it needs great support from a great studio.... Something I thought it had with Dreamworks. Sigh... And this on the same day that they allegedly chose Tim Allen over Harold Ramis.... Sigh... Sounds like beancounters are in control again... only this time it didn't take 60 or 70 years.
Alert!
Dreamworks has “temporarily” shut down pre- production of Cameron Crowe’s new film! They want a shorter (less expensive) script to produce. The shutdown came callously, without warning on January 27th while Crowe was in New York on a location and casting scout. Crowe is re- writing as we speak. If all goes according to schedule all us staffers will be back to work on February 22nd (but it always takes longer than they say).
A stellar cast featuring some formidable female actors and a certain blonde male superstar is fast assembling, so hopefully the studio suits will stop being jerks and let the project proceed. If not another major studio is VERY interested in picking up the project.
That’s all for now!
