I am – Hercules!! Season four of “Moonlighting” was the last before “Die Hard” transformed Bruce Willis into something rather bigger than his TV show, and picked up just one episode after David Addison and Maddie Hayes finally made with the boinking. SPOILERS! Season four was the season they spent apart. Having squandered the summer hiatus all coupled-up with her partner, Maddie is already reeling with dissatisfaction over Addison’s seeming unwillingness to move their relationship forward. She flees in 4.1 to Chicago, where we eventually learn she’s preggers, and where she remains until the 10th of the season’s 14 episodes. Then! On the train in 4.10 to reunite with Addison and the Blue Moon Detective Agency in Los Angeles, Maddie meets and impulsively becomes engaged to one Walter Bishop (Dennis Dugan). The season ends early due to the Writer Guild strike, with Walter Bishop exiting the scene for good, and with Baby Hayes still inside his mom. In other news, Ray Charles kicks off the season with “Hit The Road, Jack.” Claymation versions of David and Maddie turn up in 4.2. Bert Viola is upgraded to David Addison’s partner in 4.3, just a bit later than Curtis “Booger” Armstrong is upgraded to series regular. 4.5 plus 4.6 equals the 2-parter “Cool Hand Dave,” in which mistaken identity lands Addison in stir. Imogene Coca plays Agnes DiPesto’s mom in 4.8. In 4.9 Dave prepares for Maddie’s return by seeking out a Lamaze partner. The season’s antepenultimate episode focuses on Bert Viola’s efforts to move his relationship with Agnes DiPesto forward. “Dwight is not my friend. Oh my God! Dwight’s kind of my friend!” Almost certainly the best sitcom left on network television, “The Office” just won the Emmy for comedy series. Though it has little to do with the Jim/Pam storyline (easily the series’ most compelling), my favorite episode from the second season (and perhaps the best 22 minutes of network sitcom since Martin Short guested on “Arrested Development”) is “The Injury,” a Mindy Kaling-scripted affair which features Dwight sustaining a debilitating head injury that makes him by turns stranger and less-strange. Jim, hilariously, controls Dwight with a water-spray bottle, as one would a misbehaving kitty. Herc’s Popular Pricing Pantry As part of its “Fall TV Sale," Amazon last week gutted the pricing of new “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and new “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” to as low as $42 to $45 per season.
