Alrighty folks, wanna help fight to see a good movie? DEAD MAN'S CURVE is one of the jewels from last year's festival circuit. It was a film that everyone here at the AICN crew that saw it, liked a lot. I'm about to send my emails.... how about you?
My name is Bruce, I run the Official Matthew Lillard Homepage. I've received some disturbing news regarding THE CURVE (formerly titled DEAD MAN'S CURVE). As many of you know, this film was shown at many film festivals, and got some great reviews from all of those who saw it. Well, because Trimark had a bad year and because DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS ( a bad rendition of a somewhat similar subject ) did bad, Trimark has decided to release this directly to video.
I've gotten in contact with Dan Rosen, and I'm going to try to start a campaign to get the film released to theaters. We're starting a "Release THE CURVE to Theaters" campaign. Trimark promised the director at least a New York and Los Angeles run, and were even considering a 2,000 screen run, which would have been the biggest for any Sundance movie. But, Trimark balked. We feel they owe it to the director, and they owe it to us, the fans, who want to see the film the way it was meant to be seen.
We're asking that fellow geeks worldwide join in on our crusade to help persuade the suits. the powers that be. How? We've compiled a list of email addresses of people we're going to try to bombard with emails, to pursuade them to see things our way. Links to Trimark Pictures, Blockbuster Video (Rosen believes they can play a part in this) and Entertainment Weekly (they ran a story about Trimark's decision to go direct to vid, about a week ago). Why Entertainment Weekly? In the hopes that they get so many emails regarding this, that they run a follow up story in an upcoming issue, maybe post some of the letters, and that would maybe make Trimark change their mind. If nothing else, we're going for a New York/Los Angeles release, because if it does well there, Trimark will have no choice but to send it nationwide.
You can either go to http://www.matthewlillard.com/curvecampaign.htm to read up and follow the links there, or else you can follow the links I will provide in this email. So here it goes. I'll list the E-Mail link to the specific addresses, and underneath I'll give you what you should say (or you can say whatever you want as long as you cover these points). You can even copy and paste the statement into your email to save time. The most important thing to do is to get these points across that I'll be making. If you could please email all 3 of the following addresses with the info attached, it would not only make me very happy, but it would make Dan Rosen, Matthew Lillard, and the rest of the cast and crew nearly shit themselves with delight.
Let's show these studios who they're making these movies for. Us. The moviegoers. Make your voice heard! Bombard them with emails from you, your friends, your neighbors, neighbor's friends, ANYONE who has access to a computer, please get them involved. Let's see if we can make a difference.
In all of these emails, after you copy and paste the info, please sign it with your name, city/state you live in, and your email address.
So, here it goes:

It has been brought to our attention that the powers-that-be at Trimark Pictures have decided to skip a theatrical release for THE CURVE (formerly titled DEAD MAN'S CURVE) and to release it directly to videotape.
We are taking part in a campaign to get THE CURVE released to the theaters so we can see the film the way it is meant to be seen, in its entirety on the "big screen." With the recent success of Matthew Lillard (his film SHE'S ALL THAT opened #1 at the Box Office and was the 2nd best January opening ever, not to mention his cult following after his role in SCREAM) and Keri Russell (her Golden Globe for "Felicity" and its devoted audience), we feel it's in your best interest to give the film a chance at the theaters. Keri Russell has yet to have a theatrical film since "Felicity" caught fire, and this is the opportunity of a lifetime to grab that opportunity and run with it. With Spring Break and then College Finals coming up, your core audience would be able to associate with the storyline, which is an automatic word of mouth machine at schools and campuses nationwide.
The film has only been seen by select individuals, yet, it has developed quite the following. The recent disappointments of other films with somewhat similar storylines (DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS, et al.) should not deter the chances of this film's release.
We ask that you not just listen to one of us, but all of us. Please give the film at least a New York and Los Angeles theatrical run, and make your choice from there whether or not to give it a theatrical run. We think you'll be quite happy with your turn out.
I look forward to the chance to buy my ticket rather than a video rental.
If this is not directed to the correct individuals, we hope that you can forward or direct this email to the appropriate individuals.
Thank you.

If this is not directed to the correct individuals, we hope that you can forward or direct this email to the appropriate individuals.
Thank you.
Thank you to all of those who are taking part in this. Let's hope we can get Trimark to change their minds before the film's video date of March 23rd.
If anyone hears from any of these places, please let me know their response! I can be contacted at feedback@matthewlillard.com My name is Bruce.
Thanks Harry and everyone else! Let's hope they change their minds.
