The FOX is dumping its effects house to better swim the river

Well, FATHER GEEK doesn't like this bit of news from the Hollywood Reporter. Read it and weep geeks...

20th Century Fox is preparing to exit the visual effects business as the company is near a deal to sell its VIFX effects house in Marina del Rey to computer-animation company Rhythm & Hues, sources said. Fox bought VIFX in 1996, and a year later created Blue Sky/VIFX with the purchase of Harrison, N.Y.-based Blue Sky Studios. A deal to sell off Blue Sky is considered likely after a pact for VIFX is struck. Preliminary inquiries of interest already have been placed for the East Coast facility, sources said. VIFX staff and equipment would relocate to the southwest Los Angeles campus of Rhythm & Hues, best known for its work on two "Babe" talking-animal films. It was uncertain how VIFX execs might mesh with the R&H hierarchy, topped by co-founder John Hughes.
