Those WONDER BOYS are filming in Pittsburg

The Mad Hatter reports to FATHER GEEK that coolness is occurring in steel town. Pittsburg is hosting Curtis Hanson's newest effort. When Curtis was in Austin last fall he told us this was going to kick ass!

Being from Pittsburgh, this bit of news caught my attention:

Michael Douglas and ``L.A. Confidential'' director Curtis Hanson plan to begin production in Pittsburgh, Pa next month on a movie version of the novel ``Wonder Boys.'' The film also stars Robert Downey Jr. and Frances McDormand. Hanson is happy with Pittsburgh. ``The city has managed to escape the blight of that horrible urban renewal that devastated and homogenized so many other cities,'' he said. ``And Pittsburgh ties into the theme of the movie, which deals with what happens when someone has early success and the pressure that comes with it.'' The novel is the second from Michael Chabon, following ``The Mysteries of Pittsburgh.'' The University of Pittsburgh graduate used the city as the setting for both books. In the script by Steve Kloves, Douglas plays a writer and professor who’s way behind on a deadline. Downey will play his book editor, who joins him for a week of misadventure and introspection as he tries to get his author to finish the book. Production is scheduled from February-March. A lot of the film will be filmed at Carnegie Mellon University.
