Alrighty folkarinos, gather round, I'm gonna lay it out how this here award is gonna be cool.
First off, YOU get to take part in deciding it. You see before you on the main page the nominees that you all chose for nominations for the COOLEST AWARD
Secondly, From this POLL I'll take the Top 10 finishers, and have a run off between them.
Then we'll take the top 5 and have another runoff. That will determine the COOLEST film.
Each stage of the polling will take place over 7 days. So the poll you see today, will be there until next Monday, and so on and so on...
But once we determine what the COOLEST FILM is, we then have to determine who will receive the award. Now the typical thought pattern is to just give the award to the director or producer. Well.... Imagine it was 1958, and we just decided that THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD was the coolest film that year... Would you give the award to the director Nathan Juran? Or would you give it to Special Effects Wizard RAY HARRYHAUSEN or Kerwin Mathews or Torin Thatcher or composer Bernard Herrmann or producer Charles Schneer?
Or Imagine EMPIRE STRIKES BACK won the COOLEST FILM. Would the award goto George Lucas or Director Irvin Kershner or Screenwriter Leigh Brackett or Lawrence Kasdan or Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher or James Earl Jones or Frank Oz or JOHN WILLIAMS or Norman Reynolds or Ben Burtt or Joe Johnston (for designing Boba Fett) or Richard Edlund or Phil Knowles or RALPH McQUARRIE or Dennis Muren or Ken Ralston or Phil Tippett or god knows who elose.
I decided that we fans would not only determine the COOLEST FILM, but we would also choose from the people that made it, who that award should reside with. Who made the coolest film, the coolest? Who is responsible? Well, we fans will award our opinion on that.
Now we geeks have our own award. We're the coolest filmgoers in the world... right? We're better than any ol Academy of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences.... or the Foreign Press.... Right?
