Latest on Verhoeven's THE HOLLOW MAN

Harry here, I’ve read an early early draft of THE HOLLOW MAN, and enjoyed it. It’s kind of a combination of the old Claude Rains THE INVISIBLE MAN (which starred TITANIC’s own Gloria Stuart) and THE THING and every book Michael Crichton ever wrote. It’s got that same sense of urgency that Crichton is so good at creating. If Verhoeven plays it straight ahead... this film will scare the bejeesus out of ya. If he plays it for satire... well... I don’t know. But thus far he's got Jennifer Lopez... and just thinking about her is enough to get me in the theater... hell, Verhoeven's enough, but anyway here’s the latest...

Just so happens, I spoke with one of the producers of "The Hollow Man" recently, unknowingly even. Verhoven is happy with the script, even though it's currently undergoing another rewrite.

The story concerns a military experiment to cloak soldiers under invisibility thru some sort of chemical process. The man rendered invisible decides he likes his new state of grace, and slowly goes mad, murdering everyone involved with the project.

Verhoven is considering using the song "Hollow Man" by the rock group Entombed in a key scene, hence the title. No cast is officially attached, but it expected to be violent as hell.

thats-a auul,

JFK
