Here is a report from another spy that attended a screening of AMISTAD. Of course this was our most inconspicuous spy in the cadre of spies we have. The Stay Puff Marshmellow Man squeezed into a seat and wore a goofy grin on his face throughout the entire film. His eyes dodged side to side looking for celebrities and even spotted one or two. On a personal note, I feel the single best "shot" I've seen in film this year is in this film. In the trailer I saw with Mad City for Amistad, there is this shot of this one actor from almost between his feet looking up at him in the rain and lightning as he reaches for the lens and pulls out a sword. This is a truly awe-inspiring shot. And major kudos to Spielberg, the Camera dude, the Lightning dude, the Water-dropping dude, and the actor dude that made that shot. Wow. Stunning. Oh yeah, there is suppose to be a review here isn't there. Now a warning, this reviewer has a spelling problem, and I left it in there so you could judge how young or old this person is. No matter the age or taste this film did it for him. There are some slight, oh so slight spoilers here. But nothing film ruining. Ok, here is what the Stay-Puff Marshmellow Man thought...
Last night I attended a sneak screening of Amistad last night in New York. Rosie O'Donnell was there and she does live up to the name Queen of Nice. Getting to the film Amistad is one of the best historical pieces ever in the long history of film. It depicts a mutiny on a Spanish slave ship in 1839. The slaves aboard the ship revolt against the sailors and are caught trying to get back to their native land. The slaves are put on trial on so forth. The film is shot by Janusz Kaminski, who did a great job, and brillantly directed by the master Steven Spielberg. All performances are great escpecially by Anthony Hopkins and Dimjion (sorry if thats wrong) Houston. Mathew Macoungehey (sorry if thats worng too) plays a good part and Morgan Freeman does so as well. The script by Steven Zaillian , who also wrote Shindlers List, is a masterpeice of its own. I can honestly say that THIS IS THE BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR (so far) and will probably redeem Spielberg from his Lost World criticsism. The score is also powerful which was done by long time Spielberg composer John Williams, he did a great job on Shindlers too. Don't be suprise if Amistad pulls a Shindlers at the Oscars this year. (Yes its that year) Be aware that this film is a little affending, but it plays a part in the film. Amistad is a not well known by most people but after viewing this film they will never forget the torture and pain of these slaves. i heard Rosie say that she was blown away from the powerfullness of the film. All in all Amistad is a brilliant film and puts Spielberg higher in the category of greatest director ever!
