John Williams, the London Symphony and Star Wars Episode One

Boy I'd about give my left nut to sit in on these scoring sessions, how about you? Yeah, that's a lot of one nutted geeks eh?

Been meaning to contact you for ages now, and I've just been flicking through the archives on your site and came across the reviews of the concerts John Williams did with the London Symphony Orchestra this summer and was so moved that I had write straight away.

A little while back you posted a small entry about JW and TPM music, but here's the full story from my sources at the LSO. In February, at a rather famous London studio, John Williams will be embarking on a massive 16 sessions with the London Symphony Orchestra to put down the soundtrack for Episode 1. I am told that this is more than the usual number of sessions for one film, so it must be a huge score. The atmosphere in the studio's going to be magical. Don't worry, I'll report back and let you know everthing I can.

Other LSO projects to report on: Last month the orchestra recorded the soundtrack for the forthcoming Asterix film and in the new year the LSO will be recording the music for Notting Hill, the new film from the Four Weddings and a Funeral guys.

Also, although JW may not be making it to the concert hall with the LSO in 1999, JERRY GOLDSMITH will be celebrating his 70th birthday in a concert with the LSO on 5 March, conducting a load of stuff from TV and film including Star Trek: Insurrection, Mulan, Planet of the Apes, Basic Instinct and LA Confidential.

That's all from the world of music for now. Speak to you in February.

The Sorcerer.
