James Cameron and TERMINATOR 3

Yesterday VARIETY talked about how mumblings about TERMINATOR 3 were beginning over at FOX. Too true. I've been hearing about them for quite some time now, but well... things are not quite firmed up yet according to my folks. But here's the latest. One person over at Fox has told me that Arnold is holding things up a bit because of his request for what has been called an 'unreasonably large sum of money'. Meanwhile, while we've heard the news that Cameron has left PLANET OF THE APES (I hear Richard Donner may get it next), this does not mean Cameron is signing up for TERMINATOR 3. In fact he's looking for another director to take the project on, and if my folks that hang out with Steve Norrington are telling the truth, then he's the director that Cameron and Fox are talking to. Word has it that there isn't even a famed Cameron treatment on T3 yet, so whatever is in the works with that film, it's still a bit off on the horizon. The first thing that will need to happen is FOX acquiring the rights to the franchise, which... well with the publicity of the VARIETY piece... well it's going to be tougher. Then ARNOLD will have to sign on, a script will need to be written, and a director will have to be chosen. What's going on with Cameron? Well, I don't believe even he knows. He has a good half dozen products in the freezer, but he hasn't really taken anything out to cook with yet. He's taking his time, he doesn't want to pull a Spielberg and follow up his SCHINDLER'S LIST with THE LOST WORLD. Be patient, details are sure to come during 1999....
