A Positive Look At CARRIE 2'

The first couple of revelations into the quality of this project said, it was a big nasty diaper sitting in a parking lot ready to explode (well not really, but that was the general jist of it.) Well, he calls himself ‘The Mad Hatter’ and well, ya know that probably means.... he’s a bit ‘Mad’, though how mad will have to be determined when CARRIE 2 comes out. We’ll see. It’s one of them films that I couldn’t imagine being cool, but hey, I couldn’t imagine that RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD part 3 would be cool and it rocked pretty hard, so one never knows. Let’s continue to put our ear to the ground and see what rumbles.

Hey, Harry. Got to see the sequel to the 1976 horror classic "Carrie" the other night. It doesn't come out till July, but this version seemed to be pretty much done. Now, I'm not one of your spies, just a 15 year old guy. But I thought this might interest you. The film isn't technically a sequel, more of a spinoff. Even the fillout form had the title "The Rage" on it, though the credits said "Carrie 2". The only remaining character from the first one is Amy Irving, who played Sue Snell. She's a guidance counselor for a high school in this one. I'm not gonna spoil plot points for people, just to say that the main character, Rachel, played by Emily Bergl (sp?) is somehow connected to Sissy Spacek's character who died in the first one. She too has the powers, and is an outcast in school. Then the teasing gets too severe and all hell breaks loose. Anyone who has doubts about this 20 years later sequel shouldn't because, frankly, it kicks ass. The story is unusually mature for a horror film, and the character of Rachel is played beautifully by Bergl. She's unknown to me, but this won't be her last film role. The film starts off shockingly, and the audience really isn't sure where it's going to take them. The sound effects were REALLY unsettling and the cinematography was jawdroppingly eerie (reminded me of Oliver Stone's films). As for the climax...well, do you remember the prom scene from the first film? Let's just say it's been intensified quite a bit. Instead of at a prom, she's at a party, and she goes apeshit. She uses everything from CD's to fire pokers to harpoon guns. Totally COOOOOOOOOL. Some familiar faces in the film were Jason London (Dazed and Confused) and Zachary Ty Bryan from TV's "Home Improvement". Overall a cool and totally scary time. One thing that made "Carrie 2" stand out was the fact that it wasn't trying to make you jump every five minutes like all of these "Scream" rip-offs. It goes for suspense and atmosphere...and blood, of course.

Thanks Harry,

the mad hatter
