Ok, we already know that Peter Jackson is the real deal when it comes to being a geek’s geek. At a young age he created a crepe hair KING KONG outfit and was scaring motorist along New Zealand highways. He makes gore films in the grand ejaculatory nature of a fan raised on Savini, and that thought the elevator scene in THE SHINING was understated. Hell, the guy even agrees to be publicly interrogated on this site. He has to be some sort of fan right? Well, can you imagine George Lucas doing the following say in FANBOYS (there is a small one day role for him)? Well here’s what Peter Jackson did....
Thought this might amuse...
BOGANS
Dir: Grant LaHood
Something to tide you over before Jackson's Lord of the Rings comes out. Acclaimed short filmmaker LaHood (Snails Pace, Lemming Aid) has attempted a comeback from the grave after his disastrous first feature CHICKEN laid the proverbial egg at the New Zealand boxoffice. Now 2 years later on the bones of his ass he's made a shot on video featurette (30mins approx) called BOGANS (a kiwi term used to describe car fixated youths who wear black and listen to metal). The gist of this long short or short long is simply this: three absolute losers hear about jackson making Lord of the Rings for $240,000,000 in Wellington. These out of work lads hop in their shagwagon and proceed to Wellington in search of Jackson himself to convince him they can play Frodo, Gandalf etc...
This is what some may call a 'high concept' - TV sales are being attempted as we speak and because Jackson does appear in the film there may be a chance for this.... whether or not Jackson has seen the whole film is debatable, the fact that he chews a little scenery goes to show that this is one fanboy who does not forget his roots.
The film cost $65 and stars three well known Auckland actors who did it for a favour. The video may eventually be sold through the net - keep your eyes posted as I'm sure AICN will be the first to know.
