The latest on Alex de La Iglesia and his projects like FU MANCHU

I saw a funky badly dubbed copy of DAY OF THE BEAST, and boy it's a pretty damn intense little flick. I can't wait to see it on a reel screen. And as for his other projects... well, let's just say that this is someone that might very well be pulling our eyelids open with some pretty cool stuff over the years to come.... Let's hope.

Mafu Fontana here with some tidbits on Alex de la Iglesia, the director of Day of the Beast and Perdita Durango... you've here about him before. Well, it seems like you'll be able to see at least two of his films soon...

Day of the Beast (El Dia de la Bestia) will open in the US on December 23 (very appropiate date)... I'm guessing this will be on limited release, so if you have the chance to see it, don't give it a second thought.

Alex posted on his site that Perdita Durango, his last film, will open in January 1999 on the states. This is based on the book by Barry Gifford and has a great story, great cast (including Screamin' Jay Hawkins!!) and De la Iglesia's great style... you don't want to miss this one either.

Alex is working right now on Muertos de Risa in Spain. This is a comedy about two 70's TV show hosts is spain. It looks like it'll be very crazy, with some incredible sets and colors. This certainly seems like a departure from his previous films, which are darker and with a lot of dark humor. This film will probably appeal almost exclusively to Spaniards who'll be able to get all the inside jokes, since it's based on real pop culture characters from spain.

His next project is Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu, based on the classic character. This will be Alex's first american project after having refused offers to direct Alien Resurrection, Mask of Zorro and a Doom movie. This movie is looking for a fall '99 release.
