Ok, this is one of them... I heard from a friend sort of reports, so douse this sucker with salt, pepper and well mix it with your mashed potatoes, cause the pedigree of this is a bit from the far side of a wood pile, but... well it's the exact sort of response I was kind of anticipating from someone that loves the original film. It doesn't go in depth, but it does mention the general reaction of the Exhibitors present... Hmmmmm... Hopefully Moriarty will see this before Hallenbeck, because if Joe sees it first, he's taking his bat and flame-thrower (a never-before-seen weapon in the hallebeckian armory) and plans on destroying the film. He despises it with every single ounce of his hate. And... well Hallenbeck could give a rat's ass what Yoda's advice is about hate. But... well, this is the first word from a screening... here we go...
Well, though this information comes secondhand I do know that there was a screening of Psycho for industry people last week in Nebraska, I believe. Being one with contacts in the industry someone told me about it and they were...disappointed to say the least. The spy was a fan of the original and he admitted to saying that he went in with a bad attitude so he did give it that caveat.
At the screening itself he said that no one seemed scared or startled by anything in the film (given the fact that most people know what's going to happen already). Not even the shower scene made anyone jump. It did bother some people though, as the VERY RED blood that splashed on the wall behind Anne Heche made the scene much more distasteful than the original, when it was just shocking (if you look at the original blood splashes on the wall as well but most viewers are too shocked to notice). Basically the blood called far more attention to itself and takes away from the scene.
The cast seems to do well, especially Vince Vaughn but, as my spy lamented, it was SO 90s. The cast, the music, everything. My spy didn't want to give away too much more because he wants me to see it but he did say this: Being a fan of the original he went in saying "Why in the world?" and he left asking the same thing. In other words, he wouldn't of paid to see it. On the other hand, those who haven't seen the original will probably enjoy it, and he expects the reviews to split according to the age of the reviewers.
The Hot-Handed God of Cops.
