Well folks, why is this the top story? Well because... quite frankly I miss the type of film that this Cave Dweller guy is describing this film to be. While I was out in Silicon Valley, the Sunday that the remake of REAR WINDOW was on, I was flipping channels after that was over, and much to my horror, I realized that I had missed half of ANIMAL HOUSE because I was watching that highly inadequate remake. I sat there entranced. Hallenbeck called and I described the scene on screen.
"Oh man, they're cleaning out the Animal House," I whined to him.
"Yeah, but Bluto is about to chugalug that bottle of Jack," Hallenbeck retorted.
Instantly on screen it unfurled and we both laughed at the wonderful simplicity of such an overindulgence. Dad and I often watch FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH, and absolutely marvel at how effortlessly so many characters are thrown at us, and seemingly how well we know each of them. Two summers ago I was at the PARAMOUNT watching RISKY BUSINESS, and watched as a SUPER STAR was born. I miss those days. And I ain't saying this is THAT film, Cave Dweller is, but let's say for a second he's right. WOuldn't it be great to see a comedy on the scale of those films? I sure as hell do. Films like the Adam Sandler flicks have some fun gags (take that word as you will), but I don't think they are in the same CLASSIC level as ANIMAL HOUSE, BLUES BROTHERS, CADDYSHACK, THE JERK, RISKY BUSINESS, WEIRD SCIENCE, THE BURBS or FAST TIMES... I'm not crying for Eighties hairstyles and music, I'm crying for multiple characters that I love and await with baited breath to appear. I'm crying for scenes that as I begin describing them with friends we all look at each other as though a profound universal truth of laughter was uttered.
This film may not be what Cave Dweller says, but... Well, I sure as hell hope it is, we need it....

Universal has a secret Ace card that they're holding right now (and I wouldn't be suprised if Casey Silver is banking on this little below-the-radar gem to save his ass.).
TOO LATE, Sorry Casey
It's a lewd, crude, hard-R teen comedy the likes of which hasn't been seen since Porky's, Fast Times and vintage Landis/Reitman.
Right now it's called "Great Falls " or "East Great Falls High" or something like that (but it may change). Don't let the word "teen" scare you away. This is the kinda move that would eat "Can't Hardly Wait" and crap it all over the heads of the cast of "Dawson's Creek." This movie is to those powderpuffs what "Animal House" is to "Family Ties." It does not tread lightly. It has mongo cajones! It offendeth! And guess what else? It's damn good and damn funny! There is some outrageously funny shit in here that will make your jaw drop (just like the first time you saw Mrs. Balbricker grab the penis in Porky's).
But as an added bonus, at the end of the day, this little film has a lot of heart to it (again like Porky's and Fast Times) that will give it some staying power. It stars a bunch of unknowns as horny high school kids doing what horny high school kids do best - trying to get laid. Eugene Levy has a cameo as the father of the horniest kid, played by Jason Biggs. Mark my words: Biggs is the next big thing. He's got the Tom Cruise looks, style and talent and the Bill Murray/Adam Sandler goofiness all rolled into one. Buy stock in this kid's career if you can.
Apparently the film had an NRG score of 96 (Universal's highest ever). So high, in fact, that Universal cancelled all other test screenings and moved it's release date way up to February 5th and are shoveling the much valued marketing dollars it's way.
Why am I waxing so poetic about this film? Because I miss these movies! I miss Spicolli, Bluto, Pee-Wee, Newbomb Turk, Guido the Killer Pimp. I miss gratuitous T&A shots, lines of dialogue you remember for decades, laughing so hard you wet yourself, gratuitious T&A. This movie will be the first time that younger kids are exposed to this art form. And it will be a nice bit of nostaligia for all of us old farts.
The Cave Dweller
