The following images come from what looks to be a gorgeous new short film from DIGITAL DOMAIN. I found out about this flick while staying at my hotel in Los Angeles this past Monday. A ZIP disk and an envelope were slid under my door. In big thick black marker, the words.... DIGITAL DOMAIN, and then in black pen... To HARRY KNOWLES. It took about a quarter of a second to rip that flimsy envelope open. A ZIP disk. For a bit, thoughts of AVATAR, SPIDER-MAN and tests for their recreation of humans digitally. Then I spotted a bit of paper that informed me that on this disc were images from TIGHTROPE. It's a 5 minute all CG film written and directed by Daniel Robichaud. Both Stephane Coutour and Bernd Angerer were lead animators on the project.
Strange timing you know. In just a few hours I'll be flying off to San Francisco to see A BUG'S LIFE at the premiere there. I'll be touring PIXAR and well... I hope to get you more scoop on both TOY STORY 2 and MONSTERS INC. But this here Digital Domain piece has me intrigued. Apparently this Monday it will be playing at the Laemmle Monica Theatre in Santa Monica, Ca. Further details on the 5 minute film can be found at Digital Domain's page that went live just yesterday I believe. The images below came from the Zip Disk, but it seems they put them up on their page plus one. But if it gets you curious... go check it out. Apparently there is some cutting edge graphics at work, perhaps... well perhaps you'll discover the story to go with it, and write us back. I'm dying to see it myself.
