Well this flick actually sounds like it could work... Cool. I love Christopher Walken films. Hey... Wait a sec. Didn't I have a story about him and a movie yesterday? Sheesh this guy is EVERYWHERE. Check out the interview he gave in MOVIELINE this month, it's pretty damn funny... and cool too. Well here's the first bit I've heard on BLAST FROM THE PAST
I've never posted to you before, but last weekend in Kansas City I was treated to an advance peek at New Line's Blast from the Past, starring Christopher Walken, Alicia Silverstone, and Brendan Fraser. The tentative release date is 2/24/99 (I think.
The movie is about a rich scientist (Walken) and his pregnant wife who live in L.A. during the Cuban Missile Crisis. When it looks like Castro is going to fire, Walken (who has built an undergroud replica of their home as a bomb shelter), forces his wife down there. At that moment an army plane which had ran out of fuel crashes on their house leading Walken to believe that an A-Bomb had struck the neighborhood.
Thinking of the massive radiation that might be lurking above ground, Walken's wife has the baby in the shelter and they all live there for close to 35 years. His son, played by Fraser, learns everything from his parents.
When they run out of supplies, Walken attempts to go back above ground, but finds an adult book store where his house used to be. Scared, he retreats to the bunker and tells his family that they will never leave again. But, he gets sick, and Fraser has to go buy supplies. He meets Silverstone while trying to adapt to life in 1998 L.A., and the romance goes from there.
I must admit, I was skeptical about the premise, but the movie was hilarious. Walken is over the top as always, but even more so since he has to play such a hokey character. Fraser and Silverstone are also believable as future lovers.
The rep. from New Line said the cut was far from finished, but it looked great to the audience...I think they have to get a new soundtrack since most of the songs used were already Top 40 type stuff. I hope they don't change too much, though.
Oh, they showed a trailer for Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me. It was just clips from the first movie and an announcement that the movie will come out in June of '99 (hopefully late June so it doesn't get slaughtered by Star Wars).
